Here’s an interesting letter written in 1909 from Henry Vaughan Frierson to James Nelson Frierson, his oldest brother (all his siblings called him “Brother”).
Notice that Nelson has penciled in at the bottom “Sent $1.00 in currency as a down payt. to bind the bargain”. Only this much since his brother Henry apparently owed him $5.00 at the time! There were 9 children in the Elizabeth N. Frierson and James J, Frierson family: Nelson (b.1874), Helen (b. 1875), William (b. 1877), Sarah (b.1878), Henry (b. 1880), Emma (b. 1881), John (b.1883-my grandfather), Elizabeth (b. 1886), and Julian (b. 1888).
